Helicopter

Financial District, Manhattan, NY

It’s eerie to walk out of your normal subway stop and hear the dull ‘thup, thup, thup’ of helicopter blades, especially when you live in New York and work downtown. The 1 year anniversary of OWS was a couple days ago, and it made my work commute all the weirder.

There’s an split between the stairs of Fed Hall on Wall St. Half the stairs are cordoned off by fences for the Occupy protestors to well, occupy and protest, while the other half are fully open, for tourists to rest their legs while a massive hangs overhead telling people to vote to restore the George Washington statue in the middle.

It makes for an interesting Duality.

I haven’t shot much (if anything) of the Occupy Wall Street protests, despite the fact that Zucotti Park is a stone’s throw from where I am every day. There are a few reasons that I haven’t shot it (that I’m not going to go into here), but yesterday they were literally occupying Wall St and were on my way to work, so I took advantage of the situation to grab some shots. This guy was being remarkably calm, despite the chaos and yelling around, and I liked the way the cop was looking at him.
